Mycotoxins produced byFusarium species associated with maize ear rot in Iran

چکیده مقاله:
Mycotoxins contamination is one of the most important problems worldwide in maize that can cause serious threat for human and animal health. The aim of this study was to determine the ability of Fusarium species associated with maize ear rot to produce diverse mycotoxins. The results showed, One out of three isolates of F. subglutinans produced detectable level of beauvericin (BEA); the only isolate of F. temperatum produced 302µg/g ofBEA. Two out of five isolates of F. redolens produced enniatin B1and four isolates of this species produced high levels of BEA. As well, 21 isolates of Fusarium incarnatum-equiseti species complex (FIESC) and one isolates of F. brachygibbosum were evaluated for production of trichothecens (T-2 toxin, HT-2 toxin, Diacetoxyscirpenol (DAS), nivalenol (NIV) and deoxynivalenol (DON)), zearalenone (ZEN), enniatins (ENN A, A1, B and B1) and BEA by HPLC. Production of trichothecens, ZEN and BEAwith one, three and four isolates of FIESC, respectively were observed and one isolate of F. brachygibbosum only produced detectable level of DAS and ENN B1. Analyzing of moniliformin production of F. proliferatum (26 isolates), FIESC (21 isolates) and F.thapsinum (10 isolates) showed none of them produce this toxin. These results revealed the ability of Fusarium spp. from maize to produce a varied range of mycotoxins which are harmful to human and animal’s health. Therefore, the occurrence of such broad number of different species on Iranian maize could be reason of great concern because of the toxigenic risk associated to these species.

متن کاملThe Major Fusarium Species Causing Maize Ear and Kernel Rot and Their Toxigenicity in Chongqing, China
Fusarium verticillioides, F. proliferatum, and F. meridionale were identified as the predominant fungi among 116 Fusarium isolates causing maize ear and kernel rot, a destructive disease in Chongqing areas, China. The toxigenic capability and genotype were determined by molecular amplification and toxin assay. The results showed that the key toxigenic gene FUM1 was detected in 47 F. verticillio...
متن کاملMolecular Basis of Resistance to Fusarium Ear Rot in Maize
The impact of climate change has been identified as an emerging issue for food security and safety, and the increased incidence of mycotoxin contamination in maize over the last two decades is considered a potential emerging hazard. Disease control by chemical and agronomic approaches is often ineffective and increases the cost of production; for this reason the exploitation of genetic resistan...
متن کاملIncidence of Fusarium Species and Mycotoxins in Silage Maize
Maize is frequently infected by the Fusarium species producing mycotoxins. Numerous investigations have focused on grain maize, but little is known about the Fusarium species in the entire plant used for silage. Furthermore, mycotoxins persist during the ensiling process and thus endanger feed safety. In the current study, we analyzed 20 Swiss silage maize samples from growers' fields for the i...
متن کاملEffect of Environmental Factors on Fusarium Species and Associated Mycotoxins in Maize Grain Grown in Poland
Maize is one of the most important crops and Poland is the fifth largest producing country in Europe. Diseases caused by Fusarium spp. can affect the yield and grain quality of maize because of contamination with numerous mycotoxins produced by these fungi. The present study was performed to identify the prevailing Fusarium species and the environmental factors affecting their frequencies and t...
متن کاملA Genome-Wide Association Study Reveals Genes Associated with Fusarium Ear Rot Resistance in a Maize Core Diversity Panel
Fusarium ear rot is a common disease of maize that affects food and feed quality globally. Resistance to the disease is highly quantitative, and maize breeders have difficulty incorporating polygenic resistance alleles from unadapted donor sources into elite breeding populations without having a negative impact on agronomic performance. Identification of specific allele variants contributing to...
